Photobiomodulation
Transcranial photobiomodulation
Near-infrared light that supports the functioning of nerve cells. A non-invasive, painless method that we use on its own or together with neurofeedback.
What is photobiomodulation
Photobiomodulation (PBM) uses near-infrared light with a wavelength of 810 nm, which passes through the scalp and skull. The light is absorbed by the mitochondria – the “power plants” of the cells – and supports energy production in neurons. It doesn’t heat, doesn’t hurt and requires no preparation.
Vielight devices
We work with Vielight devices: a headset with LED modules that send light through the skull, plus an intranasal applicator that reaches deeper areas of the brain.
Tailored frequencies
The light is pulsed at frequencies chosen according to the goal – for example, rhythms associated with calm and recovery, or with attention and memory.
Relaxing sessions
A session lasts about 30 minutes. You sit comfortably and the device switches off automatically at the end. You can return to your usual activities immediately.
When it can help
Energy, clarity, recovery
- mental fatigue, burnout, prolonged stress;
- concentration and memory difficulties;
- sleep disorders;
- anxiety and depression, alongside psychotherapy or medical treatment;
- recovery after brain injury or stroke.
Support for the ageing brain
- cognitive decline and dementia;
- Parkinson’s disease;
- decline in memory and attention;
- age-related anxiety and depression.
Photobiomodulation is a complementary method: it does not replace medical diagnosis and treatment, but it can support them. Research in this field is developing rapidly, and responses vary from person to person.
Photobiomodulation and neurofeedback
The two methods complement each other: photobiomodulation supports the energy of nerve cells, while neurofeedback trains the brain to regulate its activity. That’s why our neurofeedback packages also include photobiomodulation sessions at a reduced price.
What to expect
The first conversation
Tell us what brings you to us and together we’ll check whether the method is right for you.
The plan
We decide how often you’ll have sessions and whether to combine them with neurofeedback.
The sessions
About 30 minutes in a quiet space, usually once or twice a week.
Tracking progress
We note what changes along the way and adjust the plan if needed.
Prices
Transcranial photobiomodulation
Individual session, 30 minutes
ILF + Photobiomodulation package
20 ILF neurofeedback sessions + 20 photobiomodulation sessions
LENS + Photobiomodulation package
14 LENS neurofeedback sessions + 14 photobiomodulation sessions
Within the packages, a photobiomodulation session costs 50 RON. Prices are the same in Cluj-Napoca and Alba Iulia.
Good to know
Does it hurt or feel hot?
No. The light doesn’t produce any noticeable heat and doesn’t hurt. Most people find the session relaxing.
Are there any contraindications?
Yes, a few. We don’t use photobiomodulation during pregnancy, in cases of active brain bleeding, or, without a doctor’s approval, for people with epilepsy or a history of seizures. Tell us about any medical conditions and medication, so we can decide together whether the method is right for you.
Can it have side effects?
Occasionally there may be a mild headache, dizziness or discomfort in the nose. These are temporary, and we adjust the plan if they occur.
From what age can it be done?
We work with adults and seniors; for children (from age 5) we decide after a conversation and an assessment.
